In my line of work, the most common cause for an engine not starting or running properly, is a varnished carburetor. Gasoline will cause this when it goes stale, and becomes a yellow gooy varnished mess, inside your carburetor.
Though it is best to run fuel stabilizers in your gasoline, most people don't, and thus, they have this problem after their equipment has sat over the winter months. The best way to clean a carburetor, is with a carburetor cleaner, such as Gumout!
I have used Gumout for over 10-years, and have always been satisfied with it. Though I admit it is a toxic cleaner, don't inhale too much of the vapors or you will be light headed. However, the powerful nature of this petroleum product, is what allows it to do its job.
I find it cleans carburetor jets and passages, including the carb bowls and floats, very well. Just as soon as I shoot this aerosol spray into a part which is dirty, the dirty immediately begins to fall. This is a great thing because it expedites my cleaning process, allowing me to finish the project faster.
You can use this stuff on both 2-cycle weed eaters, 4-cycle lawn mower engines, and of course 4-cycle automotive carb engines. Its very quick acting and the can contains a straw, so as to focus the blast right where you want it. All in all, I highly recommend this stuff. 5 out of 5
